Community Building (Food, Service, & Socials)

We're not just staying busy with making reservations, planning activities, and just pulling together the whole church to have fun; we're building God's kingdom by eliminating boredom

Three men were working on a building. The first man was asked, "What are you doing?" He said, "I'm laying stones." The second man was asked what he was doing. He said, "I'm building a wall." The third man was asked the same question. He answered, "I'm building a palace."

Each of us need to remember why we're all busy working. We're building a kingdom.

Key Roles

Vocalist:
Webster dictionary defines boredom as "the state of being weary and restless through lack of interest". Boredom is definitely a problem we're trying to solve. A lot of non-Christians see the church as boring, irrelevant, unloving, etc. People walk around with an i-Pod or cell phone almost incessantly in their ear, play video games constantly, engross themselves in hours of time on Facebook or My Space and they still fill empty. You and I both know what that feels like. Those things aren't evil in and of themselves but they can be a way to numb our bored hearts. We believe the opposite of boredom is purpose. Living with purpose helps you to say no to certain things that are bad or good so you can say yes to the best.

How does the Community Building Team accomplish this goal?
  1. The 101 Class moves people from being in the congregation to being committed. It helps them to see, Biblically, what their purpose is and how they should be involved with a local church.
  2. Our fun activities (i.e. broomball, CTF, shag night, etc.) creates an environment where people would want to be involved in a church that has an exciting Biblical purpose. It also helps the lost see that we're fun and not all dried up.
  3. The retreats also move people from being spectators to participants. The retreats help them see the purpose of the church and their lives as well. We give them an opportunity to learn how to lead a small group for the first time. Learning how to care for other people helps that person become less selfish and to live out God's purpose for their life.
This goal of eliminating boredom should help us focus on the things we need to do and eliminate the things we don't need to do. A vision like this will hopefully make other people excited to work with our team. God knows that we need more help. It will also give us a reason for why we are so busy trying to reserve rooms, plan activities, make retreat reservations, and write this really long vision.

How you can get involved!

Contact Peter to help with the following:

making reservations for rooms for our events, brainstorming ideas for future events, contacting the hotels and camps for retreats, plan church-wide activities that will involve students, getting the word out about our events so that people will show up, budget for food and equipment, collecting money at some of the events to give to the church, clean up after the event, contacting the authorities before and after the event to make sure that everyone is clear on what we're doing
