In making decisions, why is it important to make decisions with the end in mind?

In Acts 24:15-16, Paul said, "my hope is that there will be a resurrection of both the righteous and the wicked. So I strive always to keep a clear conscience before God and man". Paul went on to talk about "righteousness, self control and the judgment to come". According to the Bible, every person has three appointments. We have an appointment with death, resurrection and judgment. The ultimate statistic is that ten out of ten people die. We will also all be judged. Between our death and when we are judged before the throne of God, will we just float around as a disembodied spirit? No, because between death and judgment there will be a resurrection of your body.

  1. According to Hebrews 9:27, what is everyone appointed to do?
  2. According to Revelation 14:10, where will we all stand one day?
  3. From Philippians 1:21, what do we learn is the reason that Paul had no fear of death?

There are basically three views of death:

    • Annihilation - human existence is completely terminated at physical death. This denies the existence of an eternal soul and the justice of God.
    • Reincarnation - Upon death the souls of humans and animals pass into new bodies of the same or different species as punishment or reward. This denies the Biblical doctrine of eternal judgment.
    • Resurrection - the dead shall all rise and be judged with eternal damnation or eternal rewards. This is supported by the historical Biblical record and by Jesus Christ himself as he rose from the dead.

  4. According to 1 Corinthians 15:13-19, if there is no resurrection what is to be concluded?
    • v 13
    • v 14
    • v 15
    • v 16
    • v 17
    • v 18
    • v 19
  5. According to 1 Corinthians 15:26, what is the last enemy Jesus will destroy?
  6. In 1 Corinthians 15:42-44, how did Paul describe the resurrected body?
    • v 42
    • v 43
    • v 44
  7. According to Philippians 3:20, where is our citizenship if we have surrendered to Jesus as Lord and what implications does this have concerning how we invest our time, talents and treasures?
  8. What does Philippians 3:21 say Jesus will do to our bodies?
  9. According to 1 Corinthians 11:23-32, what role do you think Communion has for maintaining a clear conscience if we are to follow Paul's example from Acts 24:15-16?
  10. According to 2 Corinthians 5:6, to be alive "in the body" is to be ____________________________________
  11. And according to 2 Corinthians 5:8. to be "away from the body" is to be _____________________________
  12. According to 2 Corinthians 5:10, where must we all appear one day?
  13. Since we will all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, what does 2 Corinthians 5:11-21 say we should do?
    • v 11
    • v 14
    • v 16
    • v 20
  14. According to Hebrews 2:14, who holds the power of death?
  15. Who destroyed him and how?
  16. According to Hebrews 2:15, how is it possible to be set free from the fear of death?
