Vision
I was heading to veterinary school, but while I was in grad school God impressed upon me that He loved animals, but He died for people. This changed my purpose in life and I chose to pursue the ministry. While pastoring a community church my wife and I began to hear very similar stories from the young couples and singles visiting our church. They were struggling with their marriage, work ethic and general integrity. When we asked them about their view of God and the Bible, this was the often-repeated phrase, "I used to take God and the Bible seriously until I came to college. It was then that I put God on the shelf." Hearing this, we decided to focus our attention on college students and internationals. We wanted to give a firm foundation to people who were in the crossroads of their life. We began to work with Great Commission Mininistries(GCM) which is an international mission organization devoted to church planting and leadership development here and overseas. We began the church at NCSU in the fall of '94 with the help of GCM. Our desire is to see men and women have a desire to love God and make disciples of all nations through the local church when they leave NC State.
Passions
I want people to know what the Bible really says. When I really saw what the Bible says about certain topics, it freed me up so much. Often people have heard from the wrong sources what God is like and what God desires and they are in a state of confusion. I believe God has allowed me to be a watchman to point people to what He is all about and what He is really saying. I'm passionate about wanting to train the next generation of leaders for the church. I believe God is doing something not just for this generation but also for the generation to follow us. I'm passionate about His church. God's vehicle of choice to see the most people know Him and be free is the church. I'm passionate about helping men and women, who want to be leaders, become servant leaders under the qualifications God gives for leadership. I'm passionate about people knowing how they can become new creatures in Jesus Christ and freed from themselves and their past.
Likes & Dislikes
I love my wife and my children. I enjoy children, particularly toddlers - the innocence of childhood. I like coaching team sports such as baseball and playing team sports such as ultimate frisbee and basketball. I enjoy body surfing and watching action movies. I also like hearing stories of Christians who have risked their lives for the gospel. I dislike how people leave grocery carts in parking lots and how people take advantage of other people. I also dislike how people use God's name to do whatever they want to do and not be accountable for their actions. I dislike days that are rainy and cold, but not cold enough to snow.
